Jim Sheehan qualified as a Social Worker in 1974 (University of Glasgow) and as a Family Therapist in 1983 (Ackermans Institute, New York). He later completed a PhD in Philosophy in 1995 (University College Dublin) and subsequently held a Senior Research Fellowship in 1999 (University of Chicago). As a social work practitioner he has held positions at different levels in Community-based social work, child protection and child and adolescent mental health. He was a starter person in the development of family therapy training in the Republic of Ireland and was Director of Family Therapy training at University College Dublin/Mater Hospital from 1988 to 2012. He has worked with VID Specialized University as Professor of Family Therapy and Systemic Practice from 2005 to 2020 and he remains there in an Emeritus position. His publications span the areas of narrative therapy, family conflict after separation and divorce, psychotherapy supervision, the personal and professional development of psychotherapists, and couples therapy, He was the Editor of the Irish Journal of Family Therapy for many years. His private practice is based in Dublin where he undertakes family assessments for the family courts, does couples and family therapy, individual psychotherapy as well as supervising practitioners at all levels of experience. His main support in his life and his work comes from his wife and partner Helena who has been with him for 35 years. He lives in Dublin with Helena and their dog called Rua, a three-year-old cock-a-poo.

 Jim Sheehan vil bli intervjuet av Jan Flemming Raae. Jan er klinisk sosionom og familieterapeut i TSB døgn ved Veksthuset Rogaland, som siden 2022 har hatt tilbud for kvinner og menn med komplekse traumer og rusavhengighet. Jan Flemming arbeider i tillegg som veileder for Vivat Selvmordsforebygging, og har de siste årene vært tilknyttet familieterapiutdanningen på Høgskulen på Vestlandet.
